CHARMAS TRIO performs Celtic music, American Roots music, and Sea Music. at pubs, wineries, house concerts, and private parties. Everyone in the trio sings, with accompaniment by fiddle, flute and guitar. Usually the trio consists of Aaron Clegg (lead vocals/flute), Phil Johnston (lead and harmony vocals/guitar) and Elise MacGregor Ferrell (harmony vocals/fiddle), but sometimes it’s Jim Powell or Mike Long on guitar, and sometimes just two Charmas musicians perform as a duo.
Adding bass and drums expands Charmas to a 5-piece band, whose rotating cast of musicians performs at outdoor concerts and ticketed stage venues. Sometimes special guests participate in Charmas’ holiday theme shows. The full band’s genres are World Music, Celtic Rock, and Sea Music, but for private parties they also play American Classic Rock and traditional folk music. As a collective, Charmas’ diverse instrumentation includes Celtic wooden and silver flutes, Irish whistles, saxophone, fiddle, Great Highland bagpipes, keyboard, acoustic and electric guitar, electric bass, and kit/hand drums. Currently, bass player/vocalist Mick O’Broain and drummer Stephen Vahle are helping Charmas take their original World Music in a new direction.
